EN 1276 — Bactericidal activity test (Antibacterial effectiveness)

The EN 1276 is the most carried out suspension test for the biocidal market. As we do this testing daily, and it is the foundation to most biocidal claims, we felt it was important to get accreditation specifically for this testing. This is usually the first test we recommend to customers when launching a biocidal product, and the results will give you an indication as to how the product may fair on the other required testing.

EN 13697 — Surface disinfectant test (Antibacterial effectiveness)

The EN 13697 is the most required surface (phase 2 step 2) test on biocides. Usually the domestic, industrial and medical markets conduct this test as their ‘phase 2’, unless the product is a wipe. In which case the EN 16615 would be more suitable. Again, being one of the only labs in the UK accredited for this, we support some of the biggest biocidal manufacturers in Europe with their testing. Usually, the EN 13697 would be carried out after the phase 2 step 1 test has been completed, such as the EN 1276.

EN 14476 — Virucidal activity test (Antiviral effectiveness)

This is a qualitative suspension test for the evaluation of virucidal activity of disinfectants intended for use in the medical area. This is a 2/1 suspension test for virucidal activity of chemical disinfectants intended for use in the medical area. At Melbec, we are accredited to perform this test.

💪 Keep Your Skin Protected When You Train

Whether you’re rolling on the mats, sparring, or just putting in work at the gym — skin hygiene matters. Close contact, shared equipment, and constant friction can all increase the risk of skin infections spreading through bacteria and viruses.
They can pass between people or linger on gear like gloves, pads, mats, and gym equipment. Even small skin issues can disrupt training or force time off, so keeping yourself and your environment clean is key to staying active and healthy.
Simple habits make a big difference
- Clean your equipment after every use
- Avoid sharing towels or clothing
- Cover any cuts or grazes
- Shower soon after training
